Industrial Facility Simulation

The purpose of this project was to design an automated intelligent warehouse for Rockwell Automation using the software Emulate3D, integrating it with a user-friendly Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) that manipulated all the process. Developed the complete exterior design (CAD) model of the warehouse and contributed to programming key emulated elements—including conveyors, Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), and industrial robots—as well as configuring the PLC to ensure seamless device communication. The facility could store and pack 300 screw boxes, and was successfully presented at 'Expo Ingenierías 2024', attracting an audience from faculty, businessmen, students, and the general public.

Data Analysis and AI

The end was to publish a website that predicted future employee resignations in Liverpool using demographic and historical data from former employees. Contributed by implementing two machine learning models—Random Forest for the first forecast and Multinomial Logistic Regression for the second—and by designing the website’s interface. The final product could predict four out of five future resignations accurately and included an intuitive, user-friendly interface with interactive visualizations built in Python, leveraging libraries such as pandas, NumPy, Plotly, JSON, and Dash.

Robotics and Automation

The task was to design, program, and implement a scaled prototype of an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) for MotorHub capable of carrying ten kilograms along straight and curved paths, as well as up a 5° slope. Programmed the motor velocity control in Arduino and produced the final demonstration video of the product. The project met the design requirements, achieving a maximum velocity of 0.23 m/s on straight paths, and was showcased on the university’s Mechatronics Department website. A video of a robotic arm is included at the end as part of the course content.

Electronics and Instrumentation

The goal was to develop a hybrid water heating system combining solar and electric sources to heat water to 65 °C. Focused on designing and implementing the temperature sensor conditioning circuit, creating the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout in the software EAGLE, and soldering components. The system automated heating by first raising the temperature to 40 °C via solar energy, then switching to an electric heater to reach the final setpoint, resulting in an energy-efficient solution.

Mechanical Engineering Prototypes

Designed and rendered three mechanical engineering prototypes—a coffee pot, an electric sharpener, and a submarine robot (garbage collector)—using SolidWorks, applying professional modeling and visualization techniques. Delivered a complete portfolio of CAD models and renderings, and earned the SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) Mechanical Design certification. Additionally, participated in the BAJA SAE team.
